Part I: Hong KongMy first impression of Hong Kong was not a very pleasant one. This was because of the inefficiency of the Hong Kong customs. When I reached there, I saw around 100 people queueing up in front of the "Foreigners" lane. The most idiotic thing was that only 3 "Foreigners" lanes were opened which caused the queue to move at a rather slow pace. After queueing up for like 1 hr, I finally entered Hong Kong.
Sadly to say, my opinion of Hong Kong didn't really change throughout the trip. Hong Kong is rather famed for its convenient public transport. However, I do not really feel that transport in Hong Kong is that great. For one thing, taking public transport is very expensive. For example, a bus ride from Central to Causeway Bay might cost you 8 HK dollars and that is considered cheap as it is a short ride. One thing I must comment is Hong Kong's roads. They are super narrow and twist a lot. When you are riding on a bus, you will get this feeling that the bus must topple any time to knock into another car.
Food in Hong Kong is not bad, but it is not cheap either. A bowl of porridge cost 30HK dollars but I must say that it really taste nice. There is a generous amount of vegetables and meat inside the porridge and the rice are cooked until you can't really see the grains of rice. It had become a rather thick soup.
Hong Kong Disneyland is really not worth visiting. There is only 1 rollercoaster ride inside the whole Disneyland and after riding it, I realised that it moves on exactly the same track as the one at the Tokyo Disneyland. Other stuffs are not worth riding too as it is meant for smaller kids around the age of 12.
Part II: Shenzhen
I feel that Shenzhen is much more interesting than Hong Kong. The food at Shenzhen is nicer and cheaper than in Hong Kong, especially the dim sums. There is a huge variety of dim sum in Shenzhen restaurants ranging from char siew pau to prawn dumpling. And most of these dim sum only cost 3.5RMB with the most expensive ones costing 14RMB.
Shenzhen has a amusement park too and I think this amusement park is much better than the Disneyland in Hong Kong. The rollercoaster ride is much more exciting and there are also many other heartstopping rides which will provide you with hours of fun. This might be one reason why the Hong Kong Disneyland is making a huge loss and investors do not want to invest in the HK Disneyland anymore, as reported in TIME. However, I did not manage to go to this amusement park as by the time I reach there (which was 7 pm), most of the rides were closed.
Shenzhen has many interesting places to visit too. There is the Big Plum Sand(大梅沙) and Small Plum Sand (小梅沙)which are 2 stretches of beach where one can swim and do other activities such as parachuting and surfing. The only difference between the 2 places is that Big Plum Sand is free while Small Plum Sand requires you to pay some money to enter. Thus, there are much lesser people at Small Plum Sand which makes it a favourite holiday place for those rich asses.
Another place worth visiting is the Fairy Lake (仙湖), which is famed for granting people's wishes. Hence, many people come here to kowtow in the temple and donate money to the temple. But apart from being a place of worship, the scenery at the Fairy Lake is beautiful too. There are trees all over the place with a lake in the centre. Definitely a good place for a picnic. The Fossil Park is another attraction in the Fairy Lake. There are many tree-like fossils in the park and all of these fossils are millions of years old and they were buried underground after a volcanic eruption and fossilised.
Part III: Zhuhai
A very clean place as there are quite few inhabitant as compared to other cities. Visited the Mazu statue. I enjoyed the feeling of water beating against my feet as the bridge leading to the Mazu statue was purposely built so that it is half submerged.
I ate oyster steamboat for lunch. I think I ate my entire life's oyster in that one meal. We ordered 2 plates of raw oysters and there was at least one dozen of them in each plate. Then, we order another dozen of BBQ oyster with garlic and one plate of fresh prawns. When I say fresh, it really means fresh. When we put the prawns into the steamboat, you can see the prawns jumping around in the water trying to avoid their fate of being cooked alive. But too bad, none of them escaped their destiny. In my opinion, the BBQ oyster taste much nicer then the steamboat ones as there is that nice garlic taste in them.
Part IV: Zhaoqing
Didn't really spend a long time in Zhaoqing. Only went there to visit the famous Seven Star Rock (七星岩). As its name suggest, the Seven Star Rock are 7 mountains with lakes in between them. A very scenic place again, somewhat similar to the Fairy Lake just that the mountains are higher are look more solid (is that the right way to describe a mountain?). There place is quite big from the top of the mountain, you can see the whole town of Zhaoqing.
Part V: Guangzhou
Guangzhou is the final destination that I visit on this trip. The food in Guangzhou really rocks and it is cheap. And the dim sum in Guangzhou is the nicest that I've ever tasted on this trip or in my whole life. However, I must comment that the service in Guangzhou is not good as they never ever wear a smile on their face and I do not know if it is because they do not understand 普通话, but we had to call them several times before they will respond.
Also, the roads in Guangzhou are built in a weird direction and there are uncountable number of bridges all over the places making it almost impossible to remember the roads in Guangzhou unless you are a local.
The clothes in Guangzhou are cheap too ranging from 20 RMB to 100 RMB for the unbranded ones. However, I suggest people who are big-sized don't bother trying to buy clothes in Guangzhou because the clothes there are damn small. A XXL in Guangzhou is around a L size in Singapore.
That's about all. Need to mug now. I feel that I will definitely die for CT.
