Watched The Golden Compass with Wen Di and Lingzhang yesterday. I have to admit that The Golden Compass is a bit disappointing, mainly because the movie is short. It is only about 1hr and 45mins long. They could have expanded the storyline much further as some parts seemed a bit rushed.
The movie felt like Chronicles of Narnia remade as the storyline is a bit similar. Also, both movies had lots of animals roaming around and fearsome creatures such as ice bears pwnzing each other. But I have to say that the animation of Golden Compass is superb, as good as Narnia.
Anyway, it seemed quite weird that all of the characters in Golden Compass got weird names that are rather tongue-twisting such as Lyra Balaqua. It seems to have follow the tradition of Terry Brooks to have a lot of weird names for people.
The movie on the overall is worth watching but I hope that the sequels will be better than this (like LoTR).
